As winter is in full effect, well at least in my corner of the globe. This is the season where the immune system is the most susceptible to the common cold, flu and other infections. It is SO crucial for us to keep our immune system fully optimised and free from health adversities.
Today at work was a stark reminder of the importance of eating ‘immunity foods’.
Right now it seems like ALL my co-workers are down with the common cold or flu like symptoms. While keeping our own hygiene levels high, as a means of lowering the risk of catching a cold. We need to keep in mind that food is as equally as important to boost white blood cells.
White blood cells aka leukocytes are what constitutes the immune system, which is responsible for keeping foreign bodies at bay. In other words, think of it like this, imagine a reservoir that’s impounded with a dam. The reservoir represents the human body and the dam symbolises the immune system. If the dam begins to weaken the affects could be catastrophic, so in order to minimise any risks we must focus on building a strong, rigorous dam.

My example above might seem ridiculous, but there is an element of truth in what I’ve just written. Keep the above in mind the next time your sneezing, coughing or suffering from other flu type symptoms.
When I’m afflicted with a cold I don’t have the urge to eat hot food because my sense of smell is virtually non existent. Instead I like to drink liquids or eat anything that’s juicy like fruit.

- 1 large mango, diced
- 1 large banana, sliced
- 1 fresh pineapple, peeled and diced
- 2 ripe persimmons, sliced
- shredded coconut for dusting
- Arrange the fruit on a large plate and sprinkle the shredded coconut on top.
- Serve accordingly.
