These chicken wings are dredged in a grain free seasoned flour base. Then cooked until crispy in the air fryer and coated with a lemon pepper glaze. They make the perfect appetizer or crowd pleaser!
Calling all lemon pepper chicken fans!! I have got the perfect chicken wing recipe for you.
I'm talking about lemon pepper chicken wings that are completely air fried until crispy. They are super simple and incredibly tasty as well.
I've been eating these chicken wings on a whim over the past several months. I'm a huge fan of lemon and black pepper, it's such a complimentary flavour combination.
It's a flavour combination that made it's debut appearance in my Lemon Pepper Chicken Breast recipe.
That was when I first fell in love with these flavours and decided to explore the idea of making something similar using chicken wings instead.
The good thing about chicken wings is they are cheap and cheerful. They are also poultry that is very accessible as both supermarkets and your local butchers will have them to hand.
I like to buy a few pounds worth of wings, freeze them and use them at my leisure and that is what I did in this case.
Reasons to make these wings
- Perfect for a game day or chick flick night
- Relatively easy to make
- Share them with your loved ones
- Great to serve as an appetizer
- Who doesn't love wings??
The steps
- Coat the air fryer basket with oil and set aside.
- Add all of the ingredients for the dry seasoning to a zip lock bag along with the chicken and shake the bag.
- Place the chicken wings in the basket (you might have to do this in batches) being careful not to overcrowd.
- Set the air fryer to 180c/356f for 20 minutes and turn the chicken half way through.
- Meanwhile add the ingredients for the glaze to a saucepan on medium heat then stir and heat through until the butter is melted and set aside.
- Two minutes before the chicken wings are done cooking, open the fryer basket and use a pastry brush to glaze the chicken.
- Increase the temperature to 200c/400f for the remaining 2 minutes.
- Serve the chicken wings with the glaze which will double up as your dipping sauce.
Do you have any other chicken wing recipes?
Yes, I have these Pineapple Chicken Wings and my Sorrel Chicken Wings which you may want to check out. You can also check out my Jamaican Fried Chicken which is another air fryer chicken recipe
Can you use this recipe for other parts of the chicken i.e thighs, drumsticks etc..?
Yes, you can use this recipe for other parts of the chicken but I would advise you to use it on chicken that is of a similar size like drumsticks or very small chicken thighs.
Can you make this recipe ahead of time?
Yes, you can prepare the dried ingredients and place the chicken in the zip lock over night ready to cook the chicken the next day.
Can you double or triple the recipe?
I haven't tried this so I cannot confidently say how it works out. I would advise you to make the recipe in batches to be on the safe side.
Notes and tips
- Be sure to check out the frequently asked questions as well.
- Make sure to thoroughly rinse the chicken and pat it dry before dredging. I always wash my chicken using my Caribbean custom which is lime and vinegar but do what works for you.
- You can use arrow root starch if you don't have tapioca starch that is another grain free alternative.
- Air fryers vary so temperature and cooking time may differ. I'm using a Phillips XL air fryer.
- Feel free to use my Homemade Lemon Pepper Seasoning if you want to.
- Make sure to reserve the glaze (don't throw it away) the glaze makes a great dip or you may want to pour and coat the chicken with it instead. It's all about what you prefer.
- I used 2lb of chicken wings which serves up to 4 people.
- Don't use too much starch, I find that too much flour/starch removes the flavour leaving the chicken bland and tasteless.
- Serve the wings immediately or re-heat them in the air fryer so they become crispy again.
