Learn how to make some chocolate flavoured hemp milk. It's delicious, creamy, nut free beverage where you only need a handful of ingredients. Perfect for those who are choc-a-holics.
First I introduced you all to hemp milk that is made from shelled hemp aka hemp hearts and now I'm going to show you another variation of hemp milk.
Chocolate hemp milk is trending in my house and hopefully you will hop on the band wagon with us.
What I really love about this is that it reminds me of storebought chocolate milkshake without the additives and preservatives.
Also, another great thing is that it's suitable for most dietary requirements being vegan friendly, contains no dairy, no gluten and free from refined sugar!
To me, that tickes all the right boxes and everything I need in a plant based milk.
I almost forget another bonus is that this contains no nuts which is perfect for people who don't care for nuts or have allergies (I got you!).
The benefits of cacao

- High plantbased source of iron
- 40 times more antioxidant levels than blueberries
- More calcium (for strong teeth/bones) than cows milk
- Packed with flavonoids that lower blood pressure
- Raise HDL (good cholestrol) and protect against oxidation (source)
Ingredients you will need
- Hemp - You will need hemp seed also known as "hemp hearts"
- Water - I prefer to use filtered water when making my milk.
- Cacao powder - Cacao powder is a great vegan alternative to cocoa powder.
- Nutmeg and vanilla - To enhance the taste and flavour of the milk.
- Peanut butter powder - For a mild peanut flavour, I add this but this is totally optional if you would like to keep the milk nut free.
- Maple syrup - Used to sweeten the milk
Reasons why you should make this chocolate milk
- It takes less than 15 minutes to prepare
- The milk doesn't require any complex ingredients
- You don't need to soak or strain anything
- Suitable for most dietary requirements

The steps
- Add the water, hemp shells (hearts), cacao powder, maple syrup, nutmeg, vanilla and peanut butter powder to a high speed blender.
- Blitz until the milk is smooth and creamy (you can strain the milk in a cheese cloth or nut bag but I don't).
- Store the milk in mason jar or jug in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Notes and tips
- I highly recommend using a high powered blender i.e Blendtec or Vitamix.
- You will need hulled/seeds or hemp which is known as "hemp hearts" to make this milk.
- For an an intense chocolate flovour use 2 tablepoons of cacao powder instead.
- If you choose not to strain the milk it is normal for segments to settle at the bottom.
- If stored in a container/jar, shake before using the milk.
- The hemp milk should keep for up to 5 days.
- This milk is also suitable for home freezing.
- For a creamier, more concentrated chocolate milk, use more hemp and less water.
