Learn how to make some fun, fizzy and festive Christmas punch for the holiday season using a small selection of fruit juices, sparkling water and optional rum for a boozy effect.

Tall glass of punch in a xmas glass

It wouldn't be Christmas if there wasn't any punch on the table. Yes, that's right I'm going there.

In my household we love a selection of beverages during the holiday season with punch being one of them.

This drink comes together so effectlessly using a few fruit juices. I personally like to use cranberry juice for an element of tartness and to counterbalance its flavour with sweet pineapple and orange juice.

This gives the drink a nice balance of tart, sweet and citrus notes. Then I like to step things up a notch even more with some sparkling water for some fizziness.

The addition of alcohol is optional, however I usually make two batches - non alcoholic and alcoholic.

2 glasses of punch

For the alcohol batch, I use whatever rum that's in the house. Be it Jamaican Wray and Nephew, Puncheon or Grenadian Spice Rum.

However, you can use whichever rum - dark or white rum. Then all you need to do is pour all of the ingredients into a pitcher/jug or a punch bowl and stir.

Don't forget to garnish with some sprigs of rosemary/mint, orange slices and/or a bunch of fresh cranberries.

Ingredients you need

Ingredients you need to make Christmas Punch
  • Cranberry juice - Try to use fresh cranberry juice, for that extra tartness. Although pomegranate is a great alternative.
  • Pineapple juice - Fresh pineapple juice for a hint of sweetness.
  • Orange juice - For a citrus taste.
  • Sparkling water - For the bubbly/fizziness.
  • Rum - White or dark, optional to make it a grown up affair.

The steps

Steps1-4 mixing the punch
  • Pour the cranberry juice, pineapple juice, orange juice, sparkling water into a punch bowl/pitcher/jug.
  • Add the rum of your choice if you are using, accordingly and stir.
  • Feel free to garnish with cranberries, orange slices, along with fresh rosemary/mint.

Notes and tips

  • Once you have made the punch store it in the refrigerator.
  • Make sure you use fresh juice that is free from additives or preservatives or no added sugar.
  • If you cannot obtain cranberry juice then feel free to use pomegranate juice.
  • Feel free to double or triple the batch of punch if you want to.
