Loves apples? Well you cannot go wrong with this apple smoothie, totally veganised without compromising the taste. A simple yet tasty smoothie made from frozen apples, almond milk, walnuts, chia/flaxseeds, cinnamon and dates to sweeten things up a little.
Calling all apple and cinnamon fans, you just got your wish with this amazing smoothie.
Super filling, tasty and so more-ish and doesn't contain any bananas to achieve thickness either.
Even the kids will love it too which is an absolute bonus!
I'm sure we are all familiar with the old proverb "an apple a day keeps the doctor away".
This mantra is never a truer word for health conscious individuals and that is exactly the same sentiment with this vegan apple pie smoothie.
Move over Jamaican Oats Porridge and Apple Chia Pudding it's smoothie time!!
A delicious gluten free and paleo friendly smoothie that is bound to give you that extra boost of energy to kick start your day.
Whenever I whip up this smoothie it reminds me of the good times that I experienced as a little girl.
Like most mothers and grandmothers, the women in my immediate family would cook a mean apple pie.
This recipe is just like a healthy liquid version of the infamous pie and who doesn't love some pie?
We have the warmth from the cinnamon and the thickness courtesy of using frozen apples along with the chia and flaxseeds and the dairy free experience thanks to the use of almond milk
No bananas or oats were needed to achieve thickness so that's a relief for those who don't care for bananas.
It's super filling and enough to yield as a meal replacement yet you won't pile on the pounds either, so it's a nice healthy balance.
Ingredients you will need
The steps (with pictures)
Add all of the ingredients to a blender then blend into a smooth consistency.
Other adaptations
- Use another vegan milk: Don't like almond milk? No problem! I get it...You are more than welcome to use Cashew Milk instead. If you like milk with a strong nutty taste to it then Pistachio Milk or Brazil Nut Milk will most likely be your thing.
- Yield thickness: Oats, banana, coconut yoghurt and ice cubes are some great ways to achieve a thicker smoothie to the point of making a smoothie bowl.
- Protein powder: Want to turn this awesome smoothie into a protein powerhouse? Then peanut, almond or cashew butter are your thing or even add a scoop of your favourite post workout powder.
- More spices: Feel free to add some mace, ginger, nutmeg or even cloves
- Go gree: yup! Wanna turn this into a green monster smoothie, add some spinach, kale or greens.
Notes and tips
- Freeze down your apples. That's right, be ahead of the smoothie game by freezing some chopped up apples. Buy a bunch of them and stick them straight in the freezer so you are fully prepared.
- Add whatever ingredients you want before whipping up your smoothie.
- I don't recommend preparing this overnight, it works best on the day, at the same time.
- If you don't want to include dates, leave them out or add a splash of maple syrup instead.
