Immediately transport yourself to somewhere hot and exotic through this delicious vegan style tropical smoothie made with persimmons, orange, mango, frozen bananas with a hint of ginger.

    smoothie with a straw

If you are looking for a fruit smoothie that's made with nothing but tropical goodness, then let me send this smoothie your way. It takes less than 10 minutes whip up and taste delicious.

If you're stuck living in a cold climate or live in a country that sees more bitterly cold days than it does warm days then trust me this smoothie is ideal for you.

You see I'm mad about persimmons and I love sharon fruit too (a variety of persimmon) but they are seasonal fruit and worth the wait.

I love to make this Persimmon Smoothie too, it's my favourite!!

Thankfully in the UK Sharon fruit seems to be in abundance around June-August thanks to the importation of the fruit from South Africa since their harvest/availability starts around April/may until August.

By the time their harvest is over, it's time for the far east to start importing their produce from October-February.

What's so tropical about this smoothie?

I entitled this post using the word "tropical" because in my humble opinion, the tropics is synonymous to anything that is from a hot climate, and in this case fruit that is not grown in your place of residence.

So mango, banana, orange and persimmons are all cultivated in hot climates.

Can we all agree on that? So just picture yourself, on the beach, sun kissed  with some Cranberry Coconut Energy Balls in one hand without a care in the world sipping on a vegan tropical smoothie.

    Reasons to love this smoothie

    • All of the fruit that is used are naturally sweet.
    • Who doesn't love mango and oranges
    • Frozen bananas are great for bulking up your smoothie
    • No ice is needed to create that "thick" texture
    • It takes less than 10 minutes to whip up and serve
    • It's free from plant based milk (no coconut, almond milk etc.. unless you want to include them)
    • Suitable for most lifestyles i.e paleo, vegan, gluten free, low carb, low fat ...

Can you use another fruit if persimmons aren't available?

Yes, of course if you aren't able to get hold of any persimmons or sharon fruit feel free to use another fruit such as apricot, peach, pineapple, melon.

Those are good water soluble fruits to use as a substitute.

Do the bananas have to be frozen?

I personally recommend using bananas that are frozen because they act like ice in a sense, that they yield thickness without causing your smoothie to become watery from blitzing.

     Add ins

    • Plant based milk: If you like to add a splash of milk then feel free to use Almond Milk , Cashew Milk or even Pistachio Milk.
    • Yoghurt: You could add some dairy free yoghurt
    • Juice: Add any type of fruit juice if required
    • Leafy greens: Turn this into a green monster smoothie by including some spinach, collard greens, callaloo, kale
    • Nut butter and seeds: Flax, chia, hemp seed, any nut butter i.e peanut, cashew, almond etc...

    Notes and tips

    • Feel free to use either fresh or frozen fruit to make this smoothie.
    • For best results make sure to freeze your bananas before making your smoothie
    • Explore the "add ins'' section to pick any additional ingredients that you may wish to include.
    • This smoothie is suitable for most lifestyles (not keto friendly).
    • Double or triple the batch if you are making it for more people.
