Have you ever had a sunrise mocktail before? If not, you're in for a real treat, you can literally whip up this beverage in less than 15 minutes.
Yes, that's how easy it is and not to mention it is delicious too.
From an aesthetic point of view it literally looks like an actual sunrise with the red grenadine syrup resting underneath the orange juice.
It's one of those drinks that is just too pretty to drink and instead you could stare at it all day.
What is a sunrise mocktail?
In short, a sunrise mocktail is a alcohol free spin off to the original drink which is a sunrise cocktail.
The drink typically consists of orange juice, grenadine syrup and another ingredient such as soda, sparkling wine (with little or no alcohol content) or sparkling water.
The orange juice and soda and sparkling wine/water are usually mixed together and the grenadine syrup is poured last so it settles at the bottom.
The original drink contains alcohol, tequila to be precise along with orange juice and grenadine syrup.
There's not really a huge difference between the two drinks, only one contains tequila while the other one doesn't.
That's the only ingredient that has been omitted.
Ingredients you need
- Orange juice - I like to use fresh orange juice that is100% pure but bottled, it's more convenient than extracting it yourself.
- Lemon and lime juice - Lemon and lemon gives the mocktail a tangy and zesty taste.
- Sparkling water - This gives the drink a nice bubbly effect and helps to replace the alcohol content, my favourite brand of sparkling water is San Pellegriono.
- Grenadine syrup - I like to use my homemade grenadine syrup recipe.
The steps
- Pour the orange juice into a jug or pitcher.
- Add the sparkling water along with the lemon and lime juice.
- Use a spoon to stir the orange juice, sparkling water, lemon and lime juice together.
- Pour the drink into 2 hi (highball) ball glasses.
- Carefully pour the desired amount of grenadine syrup into each glass (do not stir).
